On Saturday morning this beautiful, apparently healthy, dolphin was found washed up on the stretch of beach running between Sotogrande and Alcaidesa.
Thick fog shrouded the coast that morning. One and a half kilometers walk along the stretch of wild coast I came upon this beautiful creature rolling back and forth on the water's edge. Apart from light criss- cross lines on the animal's forehead and signs of some damage on the dorsal fin the body appeared to be perfect.
Is this just another tragic death resulting from trawler's drift nets? Who knows? Further back along the beach the water's surface was filthy with thick brown effluent streaked with black oil. The numerous anglers along the beach seemed unperturbed by either.
This is the third beached dolphin within a ten kilometer stretch I have personally heard of this week.
