My husband and I had spent the day in Fuengirola last Friday. We were walking back to the Miramar shopping centre when we were approached by a man in his early 60s carrying two bags of shopping. He was English, well spoken, with grey hair and glasses.
He stated that he had parked on a disabled space in the Miramar and the police had towed his car away and it would cost 180€ to get it back, he went on to say that he only had one Euro on him as he had done some shopping and he had to go to the police station, the car hire place and the pound to get his car back.

He said he needed the taxi and bus fare to get to these places. My husband kindly offered to drive him there but he refused saying it would take at least two and a half hours. My husband gave him €20, he took our name and phone number and we have not heard anything since.
As we drove home we realised that we had been stupid as so many things did not add up!! He seemed like a very genuine man in distress and we thought we had done our good deed for the day! Unfortunately we will not help anyone now as it would appear you cannot tell the con men from the people really in need.

Watch out for him at a car park near you!
