At the recent British judo championships, 7 players from R.K.JUDO CLUB Estepona joined 300 other competitors from around the U.K to contest their respected age and weight categories.
At 8 years old and under24 kilos Ashton Hancock, in his first national event won his contests with ease to be crowed British Champion.
This was quickly followed by ‘pocket rocket’ Sofia Briggs Harrison, at under 27 kilos, who’s contests lasted a total of less than 10 seconds to take the clubs second British title.
Ben Barkby age 11 fought very well just being defeated in his semi final to take the bronze at under 30 kilos.
Ryan Whitehead, a 10 year old, fought in a new weight group and although giving his all at under 42 kilos just failed to take a medal finishing 5th overall.
Tom Whybrow another 11 year old fighting in a new weight group at under 46 kilos, fought brilliantly just losing in his final to take a well deserved silver.
For the girls Lisa Lindberg a 12 year old under 48 kilo player showed great improvement to win her first national medal, a hard earned bronze.
Finally sensei Kaz Barkby fighting after a fifteen year lay off, took a bronze in the Dan grade open weight category.
